When my dad wants something, he calls my mom Thelma Lou.
When my dad does something that frustrates my mom, she calls him Edward.
The funny thing is, My dad's name isn't Edward, and my mom's name is not Thelma Lou.
My mother's name is actually Thelma, but she was never given a middle name. Growing up in a household of five children, only one of her siblings was given a middle name. I guess maybe they couldn't find a name amazing enough to be paired with Thelma.
Back to my dad... his name is not Edward, but is actually Edwin. My mom has always preferred to call him Edward. I guess she just likes the name better. She actually prefers Edward to Edwin so much that it's my brother's middle name(which was not a way to impress her mother-in-law).
It should also be mentioned that I (and my children) have been known to call my dad Edward a time or two to get his attention.
And... the family "name calling" continues.
Taking my mother's lead... when I am a bit frustrated my my husband, Greg, I have been known to call him Gregory. I've never heard anyone else call him Gregory, except the "preacher" through the drive thru window when we were getting all hitched in Vegas. That has been the only time.
And, since Edward and Thelma Lou have pretty much been married forever, I think that Gregory and I are doing just fine, following in Edward and Thelma Lou's steps.
But if Greg ever calls me Lori Lou, I am so busting out the GREGORY!
