So, yesterday I went to Walmart almost voluntarily to get these cards for J. I only grumbled to myself for about 20 minutes. N E way....I found my way to the toy section, found the cards, and was headed to the checkout without incident and without wanting to stab myself in the eye....This is a big achievement. I waited in line to check out and the man running the register told me my total, and I handed him a 20 dollar bill. He then opened his drawer up and grabbed 2 20's 2 10's 3 5's and about a gazzillion 1 dollar bills. He then looked at me and said..."You count change" at first I though this was a question, and I said "sometimes", then Walmart guy handed me all the bills and said "You take change". Again, I was a bit confused. So, I counted out $4 and told him I needed a dime and 2 pennies...He looked at me confused. I said the following "a little silver one and 2 not silver ones". He handed me what amounted to $.12, and I took 4 dollars. I then handed him the rest of the money that he gave me, and told him to put it back in the drawer. He looked confused but followed my directions....On my way back to my office. I thought OMG!! Did that actually happen??? WTF??? When I got back to work I found J and gave him his cards, and said...."You better know I love you butthead" and he said to me..."You ok? you look traumatized". I couldn't even tell him what happened because my brain has only begun to process what actually happened.
So, I have thought way to much about this encounter...and I still don't believe that it actually happened. What was Walmart's management thinking putting someone who doesn't know how to count money on a register? How did other customers react in this situation? How short was the guys drawer at the end of the day? This just seems unreal to me. There are all sorts of other questions in my head right now but I just can't verbalize them...I just keep thinking about this and the really only intelligent thought process I have is HMMMM...Did that really happen?? Yes, yes it did....Beyond that I am at a loss.
I hate Walmart. I will just shop at Target, where they can actually count money.
